With the development of industrial production and science and technology, rare gases are more and more widely used in industry, medicine, cutting-edge science and technology and even in daily life.

The noble gas refers to the gas element corresponding to all the 0 group elements on the periodic table, also known as the noble gas. At normal temperature and pressure, they are colorless and odorless monoatomic gases, which are difficult to conduct chemical reactions. There are seven kinds of rare gases, which are helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar), krypton (Kr), xenon (Xe), radon (Rn, radioactivity), and Oganesson (Og, radioactivity, artificial element). Among them, Og is a rare gas synthesized by man. The atomic nucleus is very unstable and the half-life is very short, only 5 milliseconds.

The auxiliary gases that can be used by the laser cutting machine mainly include oxygen, nitrogen, air and argon. Inert gas is generally used for melting and cutting.

The inert chemical properties of rare gases are often used as protective gases by some production departments. For example, argon is often used as a shielding gas in the process of welding precision parts or active metals such as magnesium and aluminum, as well as manufacturing semiconductor transistors.

A variety of mixed gas lasers can be made from rare gases. He-Ne laser is one of them. The helium neon gas mixture is sealed in a special quartz tube. Under the excitation of an external high-frequency oscillator, inelastic collisions occur between the atoms of the gas mixture, energy transfer occurs between the excited atoms, and then electronic transitions are generated, and stimulated radiation waves corresponding to the transitions are emitted, near infrared light. He-Ne laser can be used in measurement and communication.
